although, even though, though怎么区分？

话不多说，我们就重点聊聊表示转折关系的连词，比如：in spite of, even though, although, though的用法。比如：

先来看看几个表示转折关系的词的例句：

1、although, even though, in spite of , despite

如果想把两种截然相反的意见或是想法联系起来，"although", "even though", "in spite of", "despite"这四个词在中文都有尽管、虽然的意思，但在英文用法表达的含义还时略有不同。先看以下几个句子：

Althougth we don't agree, I think she's a brilliant speaker.

虽然我们意见不一致，但我认为她是一个出色的演讲者。 

Even though we don't agree, I think she's a brilliant speaker.

即使我们意见不一致，但我还是认为她是一个出色的演讲者。
 

In spite of the law, people continue to use mobile phones while driving. 

尽管有法律规定，人们在开车时仍继续使用手机。

Despite the law, people continue to use mobile phones while driving. 

即使有法律规定，人们在开车时仍继续使用手机。

老师想在这里提示一下："even though"语气比"although"强烈，"in spite of", "despite"都有尽管的意思，但"in spite of"语气很弱，表示一种障碍的存在，"despite"在语气上较之更严谨，但它们都可以用在句子的开头或中间。

example：

In spite of the fact that I'm allergic to dogs, my parents are getting a puppy.

尽管我对狗过敏，我父母还要养一只小狗。

Although I love sweets and cakes, I try not to eat them during the week. 

虽然我喜欢糖果和蛋糕，但我尽量不在周中吃。

I'm a terrible singer, in spite of having two parents who are good musicians.

我是一个糟糕的歌手，尽管我父母都是优秀的音乐家。 

Even though they'd only known each other for two months, they got engaged.

他们才认识两个月就订婚了。

I would move to Australia if I got a job offer, despite the distance from my family.
如果我得到了工作机会，我会搬到澳大利亚，尽管会离家很远。

2、in spite of and despite的用法

在"in spite of"和"despite"后面跟名词、动名词或代词。

example：

They never made much money, in spite of their success. 

尽管他们取得了成功， 但他们就没有赚到多少钱。

In spite of the pain in his leg, he completed the marathon.

尽管腿痛，他还是完成了马拉松比赛。

Despite having a headache, I had a great brithday.

尽管头很疼，我还是过了一个愉快的生日。

The train was cancelled. In spite of that, we arrived on time.

火车被取消了，尽管如此，我们还是准时到达。

老师在这里提醒大家注意，"in spite of" 和 "despite" 通常与表达"the fact that" 连用，后面跟主语和动词。

example

In spite of the fact that he worked very hard, he didn't pass the exam.
Despite the fact that he worked very hard, he didn't pass the exam. 

3、although和even though的用法

在although和even though后面，我们用主语和动词。Even though比although更强调语气，更有力：

example

I enjoyed the course, although I would have liked more grammar practice. 

我很喜欢这门课，虽然我希望有更多的语法练习。

Although we saw each other every day, we didn't really know each other. 

虽然我们每天都见面，但我们并不真正了解对方。

Even though she spoke very quietly, he understood every word.

尽管她说得很小声，他还是听懂了每一个字。 

She didn't get the job, even though she had all the necessary qualifications. 

尽管她具备所有必要的条件，但她还是没有得到那份工作。

"though"和"although"可以用同样的方式使用，"though "也可以放在第二句的末尾，这种表达对立观点的方式在英语口语中最为常见。

Though I wasn't keen on the film, I thought the music was beautiful. 

虽然我不喜欢这部电影，但我认为音乐还是很美。

We waited ages for our food. The waiter was really nice, though. 

我们等了很长时间才等到我们的吃的，不过服务员的服务还是很好的。
