1.Writing

This week, we'll examine issues in education reform. For example, some educators think that by focusing mainly on foundational knowledge in subjects like reading, math, and science, schools are not fully preparing students for success in the workplace. These educators argue that soft skills---nonacademic skills such as being empathetic or having a strong work ethic---should be part of the curriculum, with classroom time dedicated to developing these skills. Do you agree? Why or why?
Claire
l agree. Soft skills are important because they affect how well students do their work.
Andrew
Soft skills are important, but I don't agree with using classroom time to work on them.
Claire
1. The main reason is that the integration of soft skills into the curriculum plays a crucial role in the holistic development of students.
2. Also, if teachers include the idea of resilience in the curriculum, they are helping students navigate setbacks and challenges, preparing them not only for academic hurdles but also for the inevitable difficulties they will face in life.
支持Andrew
1. First, soft skills are often intangible and difficult to quantify objectively.
2. Another hurdle in integrating soft skills into the curriculum lies in the area of teacher training. This is because many teachers may not have received adequate guidance on how to do this.
1. Cattle farmers argue against the protection of prairie dogs because these animals compete with cattle for grass, creating an economic problem for agriculture.
2. Prairie dogs carry insects that can transmit the plague bacteria to humans so that they may represent a serious hazard.
3. Prairie dogs have not much ecological importance to broader ecosystem since they don’t belong to species at the top of the food chain.
1. Currently, most of the cows feed on processed food and they live in enclosed feeding areas, which means that grass is not as precious as it was before. Also, according to some study, the activities of prairie dogs facilitate the fertility of soil in the grassland.
2. The kind of flea living on prairie dogs doesn’t tend to live on the bodies of human beings, which makes it less likely for the transmission of plague to happen.
3. Although prairie dogs are only plant-eaters, they actually play a vital role in ecological system. Prairie dogs

This week we will discuss issues faced by secondary school administrators. I'm referring to schools for teenage students. One such issue is students who change schools. Students change schools for many different reasons, the most common being a family move. On the discussion board, l want you to exchange ideas about what schools can do to make the transition to a new school easier for teenagers.
Paul
I think schools should assign new students a fellow student who can help them adjust.
Claire
I would require new students to sign up for some school club or activity that meets outside of class.
Paul (peer mentor)
1. To begin with, a fellow classmate can better understand the challenges and concerns that new students may face during their transition to a new school.
2. Also, The "student buddy" can introduce the new student to classmates and help him or her establish connections with others, thus facilitating the integration of new student into the school community quickly.
1. First, if class teachers can give individualized attention to new student, he is more likely to adjust to a new school environment.
2. In addition, when a student transfer to a new school, high-quality instructions and assistance from teachers would help him to understand his strength and thrive academically.
2.Speaking
第四套
Task 1
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Good teachers admit when they have made a mistake or do not know something.
Use a specific example to support your point of view.
I agree that good teachers usually stand corrected when making a mistake or admit they don’t know everything. First, these teachers are honest, and I think the most important quality of a good teacher is honesty. An honest teacher can not only win respect and trust from their students, which are critical to the relationship between a teacher and students, but also set a good example to students and inspire them to become honest people as well. Moreover, students can develop critical thinking skills if they have such teachers. For example, my geography teacher in high school always tells us not to believe everything he says because he sometimes makes mistakes, and we need to collect the data and explore the subject on our own. So I become a more independent learner.
Task 2
University Web Site Should Include Student Events
Task 3
Waterway Restoration
Task 4
Psychological Safety
第五套
Task 1
Some people think historical sites should be open to the general public, but some people think historical sites should only be open to experts and researchers. Which do you think is better?
I support the idea that the general public should have access to historical sites. First, citizens are entitled to visit the historical sites in their country. The government is normally responsible for the protection of most historical sites, and the protection fees come from the taxes people pay, so the historical sites should be rightfully open to people living in this country. Furthermore, it’s a great way to strengthen cultural exchange when historical sites in a country are open to the public, including foreign visitors. People can become more interested in local history and cultures after seeing the ancient relics and monuments in person, and foreign visitors will gain a deeper insight into the culture of the country they visit.
